It looks like Kevin Love really did not want to withdraw from Team USA, and who would? It’s a chance to represent your country against the best in the world, and you have to withdraw because you might get traded any day now.
Love was forced to withdraw from the team because of rumors and speculation about whether he will get traded this offseason. And he and the Timberwolves agreed for him to withdraw from the team, because they could not risk him getting hurt and nixing any trade talks that may be going on.
And Love does not want to risk getting hurt because he definitely wants out of Minny. But still the decision was still hard for him because like every little kid growing up, he wanted a chance to represent the USA and help bring back the gold.
When Love called USA managing director Jerry Colangelo to tell him he would be withdrawing from the team, Colangelo said, “the guy almost cried on the phone when he told me he couldn’t play. He was really down.”
But not to worry Love, you are still in good standing with Colangelo, who said that Love would not be looked down on for withdrawing, and has not lost any “equity”, meaning it won’t be any harder for Love to make the 2016 Olympics Team now that he has withdrawn.
So there’s that good news for Love. But still, Love almost crying when notifying Colangelo that he could not play shows that Love really cares and and shows a sense of patriotism that a lot of NBA players could learn from.
But hey look at the bright side Love, you can still play in the Olympics for Team USA in 2 years, and that is a nice consolation.
